Gene Hickerson with CEN Racing Matrix TR Arena Did it Again!
Gene Hickerson and the CEN Racing Matrix TR Arena takes the 6th TQ in a row and wins for the 5th time in the last 6 rounds of the Florida State Series. There’s another report on the Gene’s recent win with his TR Arena Truggy.
Round 4 of the 2007 ROAR FSORS was held in Fort Lauderdale last weekend.
Even with the track being on the South East tip of Florida, there was still
an incredible 201 entries. The layout at Mills Pond was a tight technical
layout which proved to be tough to go the whole 5 minutes without crashing.
In 1/8th Expert Buggy it was all Kyosho’s Ryan Eckert. Ryan Eckert TQ’d by 8
seconds over Xray’s Leon McIntosh and my Cen Matrix Pro, just .1 seconds
behind in 3rd. In the A-main event, Eckert took the hole shot followed
closely by myself. TTR’s JR Mitch moved into 3rd and eventually caught me
and Eckert at the 6 minute mark. As I was heading in for my 1st pit stop, I
ran out of fuel 1 foot from the line. That put me 2 laps down and left
Eckert and Mitch to battle for 1st. Eckert went on to win by a good 10
seconds, with Kelly Bear taking 3rd.
In 1/8 Truck, Kyosho’s Tony Pattishall took the early TQ. But in round 2, I
had a perfect run and took over TQ by 11 seconds. My Matrix TR Arena was
only 3 seconds slower then the Expert Buggy TQ time, even though the track
was very tight for the big trucks. In the A-main event, CEN’s Kyle Sokol
took the lead over from Pattishall early on. I had to work my way up through
the field as I missed the start. I caught Sokol and followed him as we
stretched out our lead over the rest of the pack. Just before the 1st pit
stops, Sokol flamed out and dropped back. That gave me a huge lead and I
went on to lap the whole field and win by 3 laps over 2nd place Steve
Szykulski and Glenn Napurski in 3rd to give me a perfect points score of 303
points thus far in the series.
