Horatio Updates IV: HPI Savage, STS D30M engines and Fioroni Turbo Clutch

Update on the Fioroni Turbo Sliding Clutch:
Well, had a bash around with the HPI Savage today. The engine is tuned and the power is awesome. The Fioroni clutch exhibits awesome bite now and the truck pulls power wheelies with very little provocation. There is no clutch fade and the power-band is so aggressive and broad with the STS D30M, that extreme care has to be taken at all times not to put the truck on it’s lid.

Obviously, the Savage is fun to wheelie, but the with so much power on tap it’s far too easy to flip it from a standing start, even with 18/47 gearing. My old faithful engine would pull decent wheelies on 17/49, but the D.30 really is a beast of an engine.
In wide open spaces, you can reach impressively high speeds. Yet the engine has sooo much torque, you can still pop wheelies on command (traction permitting) even with the highest gear ratios. The ultimate ‘fun’ power combination!!! Savage, STS & Fioroni!!!
Despite this rigorous operation, the clutch shows no sign of wear and offers a significant improvement in performance over the 3 shoe arrangement. A great, low-cost, power-enhancing upgrade. I can’t imagine any centrifugal clutch getting power to the wheels better than this.
I’m running the Turbo Slider clutch. I’m using the Kyosho flywheel, and carbon shoes.
