Ryan Maifield the King of NitroCross Dash For Cash in the Truggy session.
The 15 lap dash for ($500) cash race saw Cody King lead away closely tailed by Maifield, the fight looked on, but errors from King allowed Amezcua past and into the lead – until Amezcua retired shortly afterwards. This left a sizeable gap for Maifield; knowing he wasn’t able to do the 15 lap main on one tank, a great strategy call saw Maifield pit v.early and come out just behind Cody King, with Ty Tessmann just behind. Soon enough Maifield took the lead and basically steamed away driving pretty safely – a deserved win.
Just like in truggy, the 45 minute buggy final came down to the last few laps. After initial battles between Tebo, Truhe and Maifield, Truhe led and was looking the hot candidate for the win, time after time, Tebo closed in and on-track wheel-to-wheel action ensued. This went on until 5 mins to go, when Truhe broke (suspected steering servo) – this produced further drama as the crowd thought Tebo was now going to take home victory on his birthday, however Maifield wasn’t too far behind. With the disappointment of yesterday’s truggy final, Maifield went on a last charge to try and fight for victory, Tebo was losing time, albeit slowly, until lap 59 where he crashed and lost about 5secs, putting Maifield right behind him. Some spectacular driving from both parties, with Maifield eventually coming out on top, capping a great weekend for Team Associated with 2 cars on the podium for buggy and truggy.
